On August 21, Apple began distributing Mac OS 9.2.1 update in the
download section of its site, http://www.apple.com/software. There
is no charge for the update.
According to Apple, the Mac OS 9.2.1 Update improves application
compatibility with Classic in Mac OS X and adds additional hardware
support for new machines announced in July. For further details, see
Apple's web site at http://www.apple.com/software.
There are several important issues to consider when installing the update:
1) It requires that Mac OS 9.1 be already installed on the system.
2) Version 9.2 and later will only run on computers capable of
running Mac OS X: PowerMacintosh G3, PowerMacintosh G4, PowerBook G3
(with the exception of the original PowerBook G3), PowerBook G4,
iMac, and Ibook.
3) To update from a pre-Mac OS 9.1 operating system and using
Language Kits, you must use the Mac OS 9.1 (or greater) CD to install
the operating system and Language Kits prior to updating.
4) You may experience compatibility problems with third party
peripherals and applications - check the vendor's web site for
details.
Within 30 days, the Software Release Team will have detailed testing
results and a recommendation. If you have questions in the meantime,
