Good morning!

The Office XP Release Team would like to invite you to participate in
testing Office XP Standard for Windows. We are looking for approximately 20
volunteers who can contribute a few hours of their time within the next
three weeks.

Office XP Standard is the next version of the Office productivity suite
from Microsoft for the Windows platform including Word, Excel and
Powerpoint. The focus of testing is to ensure that Office XP is compatible
with other supported Office suites, that it functions well with supported
business applications and administrative templates and also to identify any
problematic cross-platform behaviors to prepare documentation and training
for the MIT community.

Some issues to ponder prior to volunteering:

Available time for active evaluation:
We anticipate a 2-3 hour allotment for testing, however, you are not
expected to test every area of the software.

Evaluation to include:
  - testing the installation process
  - integration testing within the MIT environment
  - documenting cross-platform behaviors
  - reviewing the documentation.

If you agree to assist, we will provide the following:
  - the licensed software on CD
  - documentation
  - test results reporting form

You have two testing options:

1. On your own machine:
While we would prefer that you conduct the test on a machine that will
receive regular use, the software you will be testing could cause
unexpected changes to your system. If you do use a production machine, you
should plan to back up before installing the software and frequently during
the testing process

2. Integration Laboratory:
You are encouraged to use the Integration Laboratory located in N42 for
testing. If you would prefer to use the lab, please contact me to make
arrangements.

If you are interested in assisting with the evaluation, please contact me
by Tuesday, August 21st. When responding, please include your office
address and the operating system you plan to use for testing. Testing is
expected to begin next Thursday, August 23rd and continue for three weeks
ending on Thursday, September 13th.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me or, the
Office XP Release Team (officexp-release@mit.edu)

Sincerely,

Deb Bowser
