Subject: Release of Kerberos for Macintosh 4.0.3 for Classic and Mac OS X
10.1.5
Cc: infosys@mit.edu, itag@mit.edu
Good afternoon!
Information Systems is glad to announce the release of Kerberos for
Macintosh (KfM) 4.0.3 for Classic and Mac OS X 10.1.5 to the MIT Community.
Who Should Download and Why
------------------------------
All users of Mac OS 10.1.5 and earlier, including Mac OS 9 should upgrade
to KfM 4.0.3. If you use Mac OS 10.2 or later and do NOT use the Classic
environment, then you should not install KfM 4.0.3, as KfM 4.5 is already
included by Apple in Mac OS 10.2. If you use the Classic environment in
any version of Mac OS X, including 10.2, then you should install KfM 4.0.3
in the Classic environment. For example, if you are using Mac OS 10.1.5
and Classic, you will need to install KfM 4.0.3 twice, once in the Classic
environment and once for the Native environment.
This new version is considered a critical update to versions 3.5 - 4.0.2 of
KfM as it fixes a bug that can seriously affect productivity. If your
department has a local computer administrator, then IS recommends that you
consult him or her first before downloading and installing this new
software. If your department does not have a local computer administrator,
then IS recommends that you set aside 30 minutes to download and
upgrade to the latest version in the next month.
If you still have questions, please contact the Computing Help Desk.
New Features and Improvements
-------------------------------
Kerberos for Macintosh 4.0.3 provides important bug fixes:
4.0.3 is a very important bug fix which prevents a pause on the users
machine from occurring during the period the user has tickets. This bug is
present in KfM 3.5 through 4.0.2. The pause happens every 10 second but the
duration of the pause depended on the speed and active load of the machine.
4.0.3 also carries over a bug fix from 4.0.2 that fixes ticket sharing
between Classic and Mac OS X 10.2.
