Re: Dreamweaver MX Product Release Effort Underway
Product Release Effort Underway
-------------------------------
In late May 2002, Macromedia announced the commercial release of
Dreamweaver MX as a standalone product and as part of its new Studio
MX web content creation suite. The products began shipping to
business and educational consumers in early June. MIT received site
licensed upgrades for Dreamweaver MX over the summer months of 2002.
Information Systems plans to support the standalone product
Dreamweaver MX not the full Studio MX suite.
The IS Dreamweaver MX Product Release Team has been testing the
product for compatibility within the MIT computing environment, with
the goal of establishing a support statement and making the software
available to the MIT community later this Fall.
IS does not recommend that MIT users upgrade to Dreamweaver MX until
the team has had a chance to fully evaluate it. (Even if the software
proves fit for MIT, note that the software has higher system
requirements than previous versions of the product and will not work
on older versions of the Mac OS.)
A Plethora of new Features:
------------
*Mac OS X and Windows XP native
*Potential for SSH-enabled secure file transfer from the Dreamweaver FTP client
*Enhanced template functionality
*Enhanced support for CSS
*New and enhanced accessibility support
*New Macromedia hybrid interface
New features beyond our realm of support:
*MX incorporates all of the application development and database
tools that were in Dreamweaver UltraDev
*Further integration between other MX suite applications including
Cold Fusion MX
*Support for XHTML, XML, .NET, JavaScript, PHP, JSP, and CFML
An overview of Dreamweaver MX is available at
<http://www.macromedia.com/software/dreamweaver/productinfo/features/index.html>.
Testing
-------
Internal IS testing is underway. We are also providing eager members
of the MIT community the opportunity to test this product.
Software Distribution
---------------------
We will be examining the terms of our volume license agreement with
Macromedia to determine a distribution strategy for Dreamweaver MX.
It is likely that we will proactively distribute a CD with the new
version to MIT community members who obtained version 4 under MIT's
volume license.
More Information
----------------
If you have any questions about the release effort, please contact
the Dreamweaver MX Product Release Team at
