Good Afternoon,
Microsoft released Service Pack 3 for Windows 2000 on August 1, 2002. Over
the next 4 weeks, Information Systems will be testing Windows 2000 SP3 in
the MIT environment and with our Enterprise Wide Application owners. By
the beginning of September we will have another communication for the
community regarding Windows 2000 SP3.
At this time, we are not encouraging everyone to apply SP3. While we do
not anticipate problems with this service pack, prior service packs have
caused serious problems and therefore we recommend waiting until IS can
make a recommendation. Once we have had a chance to test the service pack,
we will report our findings back here. If you do choose to apply the
service pack, please be sure to back up your system first and we would
appreciate hearing about your experience. Please send email to
swrt@mit.edu with a subject line "Windows 2000 SP3 Experience."
