Good morning,

Information Systems is happy to release an updated installer for VirusScan
for Windows that is pre-configured to automatically update itself and scan
for viruses every night. We have been working on this installer to make it
easier for you to be safely protected from the viruses that have been
spreading around the Internet this summer.

Who Should Download and Why
--------------------------------------------------------
Any Windows user that has not already set their VirusScan to automatically
update on a daily basis and scan regularly should download and install this
version - be sure to uninstall your current version before installing this
one. For more installation instructions see the linked below.

If you do not have VirusScan 4.5.1 and SP1 installed, you should download
this version and install it - see installation instructions linked
below. If you have VirusScan 4.5.1 without SP1 installed and it is already
configured to update daily and scan regularly, you can also download and
install just the service pack.

If you have a local IT support provider, check with them first as they may
already have plans underway that address viruses.

Notable Features
-----------------------------
  - Includes the installation of SP1
  - Pre-configures VirusScan to automatically update virus definition file
and scan engine nightly*
  - Pre-configures VirusScan to scan your computer nightly*
  - Easy to use: An even more thorough system scan (including compressed
files) is included but not scheduled.

* the nightly schedule was chosen as a general solution when many people
are not actively using their computer, you may wish to change the schedule
to fit better with your usage.

Known Issues
----------------------------------
  - Missed Updates and Scans do not happen automatically when machine wakes
up from hibernation or stand-by. See documentation linked below for work
around.

- Installing over an existing installation VirusScan caused problems in
some cases. Uninstall your existing version before installing this one.

- Does not support Fast User Switching with Windows XP.

Major Pre-Configured Settings
------------------------------------------------
AutoUpdate scheduled for between 4:00am and 4:50am*
Scan All Local Drives - scheduled for 5:00am*
Scan all inbound and outbound files (including heuristics and macros)

A complete list of settings is linked from the installation instructions
section on http://web.mit.edu/is/help/virus/pcvirus.html.

* the nightly schedule was chosen as a general solution when many people
are not actively using their computer, you may wish to change the schedule
to fit better with your usage.
