Hello,
Informations Systems is proud to announce the release of Stretch Break
4. Last year, the MIT Ergonomics Committee purchased a site license for
Stretch Break for the MIT community. Although the software has been
available since then, it has not been supported by Information Systems
(IS). Starting August 1, IS will now support this program.
What is Stretch Break?
------------------------
Stretch Break is an ergonomic stretching and break timer program for
Windows and Macintosh platforms. The program reminds you to take periodic
breaks from your computer. A team of health care professionals developed
Stretch Break to help increase circulation, relieve tension, and guard
against Repetitive Strain Injuries. A series of 24 low-impact stretches
are displayed at user-determined intervals. Stretch Break also provides
ergonomic information, including workstation setup guidelines.
Who Should Download and Why
----------------------------------------------
Stretch Break is recommended for all computer users to aid in the
prevention of Repetitive Strain Injuries. It is especially helpful for
anyone experiencing strain from computer use and/or users who have trouble
remembering to take breaks.
Features
---------------------
1. A break window launches every 1 to 120 minutes.
2. Breaks can be cancelled or delayed for 1 to 5 minutes.
3. Stretches are displayed at each break. 24 stretches are available.
4. Thumbnail sketches of the stretches can be printed out and taken to a
health care provider, who can then specify which stretches are helpful (or
not) for each individual.
5. ErgoHints - guidelines for setting up an ergonomically correct
workstation as well as a series of hints on how to avoid injuries when
using your computer. Also includes a list of keyboard alternatives to using
the mouse.
Where to get Stretch Break
---------------------------------
The installer is available from http://mit.edu/software/ as Stretch Break
4.1 (Mac) and Stretch Break 4.5 (Windows).
Please review the documentation http://mit.edu/atic/www/stretch/ before
installing.
If you have a question or need assistance, please contact the Computing
Help Desk at computing-help@mit.edu or x3-1101 (Mac) x3-1102 (PC).
Thank you!
