The program sends E-Mail giving the number of G/L statement files
produced in SAP each month.
Perhaps it isn't working correctly (in which case, please let me know)
or the E-Mail isn't going to the right addresses (in which case, please
let me know) or you need some help in interpreting what it is trying to
say (in which case, either Mark Prudden or I are available to explain
it).
The mail is sent to a LISTSERV list named GLSTMT-L. The DOST addressees
on that list are FRANX@MITVMA.MIT.EDU and PRODSRV@MITVMC.MIT.EDU.
The program normally sends E-Mail to the GLSTMT-L list when a job starts
and when it finishes.
For the run at the beginning of this week, the job sent four messages,
all of which I've appended below. I will describe how they are intended
to be interpreted.
The first message (sent Mon, 7 Jan 2002 17:03:03) with the subject line
"ZGLSTMT (SAP G/L Statement Generation) Started" was sent From "PS1:030
to GLMP". PS1 is the production SAP system, 030 is the production
client, and GLMP is the G/L statement production print queue. (However,
it could still be a small test run in the production system, for
example, to check the appearance of the cover letter.) It goes on to say
that it will start "with file number 001 and run until it finishes the
last file or is otherwise terminated" and that it is trying to generate
statements for "038105 cost objects". Taken together, this means "A full
production run is starting."
The SAP system went down (for a backup) a little after 1:00 AM the next
morning. We couldn't send mail when the system was shut down, but we did
send mail when the system came up at about 5:30 in the morning. The
second message (sent Tue, 8 Jan 2002 05:26:41) with the subject line
"ZGLSTMT (SAP G/L Statement Generation) Interrupted" reports that the
job started at 01/07/2002 17:03:01 was cancelled at 01/08/2002 01:17:07.
(It also notes that "A continuation job will be submitted in an attempt
to complete the SAP G/L statement run".) Then, under the heading "Files
Closed:", it provides a "packing" list of the files produced by that
first job. In this case it shows that files 001 through 019 (inclusive)
were completed and sent to be printed. It also shows that there were 1405
cover letters (= 1405 groups of statements to be packaged and delivered
separately).
The third message (sent Tue, 8 Jan 2002 06:25:47 -0500, but
unfortunately not received until about 9.5 hours later, due to some
unsolved problem on beech) with the subject line "ZGLSTMT (SAP G/L
Statement Generation) Restarted" reports that a continuation job is
starting. It says that the continuation job will start with file 020 and
it still has 020653 cost objects (of the original 038105 cost objects)
to do.
The fourth message (sent Tue, 8 Jan 2002 16:21:15) with the subject line
"ZGLSTMT (SAP G/L Statement Generation) Ended" reports that job which
started at 01/08/2002 06:25:43 ended at 01/08/2002 16:20:38. Under the
heading "Last 10 lines in the Job Log for Job 'ZGLSTMT CONT 01/08/2002
06:25:26'" there are the last ten lines of the log file. The fifth from
last line says that it finished file 041 and did reports for 038105 cost
objects, which is the number that it said it was going to do in the
first message. The fourth from last and third from last lines say that
the job produced files 020 through 041 (inclusive) and ended normally.
The next to last line says that file 041 is REALLY the last file for the
set of (possibly continued) jobs for this month's statements. The last
line says that this job finished (normally). However, the last line
would have said that if Jay had only run some fraction of the statements
(rather than running them all). Then, under the heading "Files Closed:",
it provides a "packing" list of the files produced by the second job. In
this case it shows that files 020 through 041 (inclusive) were completed
and sent to be printed. It also shows that there were 1533 cover letters
(= 1533 groups of statements to be packaged and delivered separately).
Combining the 1405 groups of statements from the first job with the 1533
groups of statements from the second job, there were a total of 2938
groups of statements in 41 files.
I know that this explanation is a bit long. I hope it is of some use.
