(Sorry about the typo in the date of the last set of minutes.)
Attending: Dave, Rocklyn, Lynne, MEB
WELCOME LYNNE
In addition to participating on the delivery team, Lynne w/help with
conversion from the 3827 to another 3160 to be purchased and set up in W91.
UPDATES from DAVE
1.Theresa Regan has offered to test SAP printing with IPM. She is setting
up printer definitions in SAP to the IPM software.
2. Dave reported that after a number of unsatisfactory calls w/Xerox, he's
excused them from our project altogether.
3. Dave participated in a teleconference survey conducted by "an unnamed
printer vendor" and found it to be pretty interesting. Participating
schools included: Notre Dame, Rice, Clark, North Carolina (Chapel Hill),
and one or two others. Everyone seems to be struggling with the same
issues, including costs and printing in a diverse, networked computing
environment.
4. Dave has conferred with Peter Kelley about support for IPM, level of
service, size of equipment. One question w/which to deal is how many
"boxes". Best solution is two - one for production and one for
backup/testing. We need to justify the importance of a "beefy" version of
the server.
5. A 3160 for W91. From an operation standpoint it makes sense for many
reasons (cost, efficiency, timing) to get a 3160 right away. Then begin to
shift print off of the 3827 to the 3160 in E19 and work towards load
balancing. From our project point of view the advantages are: two people
in W91 to test it, and an opportunity to honor Integration wishes when the
3827 goes away.
MORE IPM CONSIDERATIONS
1. How is impact printing done with IPM? (Rocklyn took the ACTION ITEM.)
2. How does a mainframe print queue file get to the IPM server? Rocklyn
took the ACTION ITEM)
3. DAVE: How close are we to saying we recommend IPM? Answer these questions:
-Does it have the functionality we need?
-Is the product viable? Will it be around for a few years?
-Will there be a vendor partnership? in the interests of continuity.
-What is its value? Is the cost appropriate?
4. ROCKLYN: What needs to be done before recommending IPM? Answer these
questions:
-How is impact printing done with IPM?
-Do PSF/VM and TCP/IP work? (same question as how a mainframe print
queue file gets to the IPM server.)
-What are the options for printing from the desktop to the IPM
queue - e.g., the Kerberos, web interface question.
5. We have the test IPM server for about another week or two.
6. Lynne wants to meet Jeff Banta.
7. Banta wants to be around for configuring the E19 3160 with IPM.
PROJECT CONSIDERATIONS
We need to revisit the timeline and implementation schedules.
Need to begin thinking more seriously about print engines.
Need to reschedule this meeting. Decided on Monday mornings from 10 to 11:30am.
Next meeting of technical team: Monday, May ??, 2000.
