Here's some lengthy IPM server hardware pricing info. I'd vote for
some sort of RAID disk (RAID 5 would be fine with me) for any/all
IPM production servers. Past experiences indicate the RAID protection
for disks is well worth the minimal additional cost.

response I received before going to Boulder for an IPM configuration. The
second note was in response to my request for beefing up the servers in the

note, even more. i.e. increase the memory size of the largest server in

note to 512MB, and to include an even bigger processor that has a greater
ability
to be expanded (more slots for expansion), also with 512MB. I like the
F50 as it
is the most flexible. It is far more than you need if we are only going
to drive

Jeff,
I hate giving customers multiple configurations/options. I like to usually
just give them one recommendation as not to confuse them. I figured I'd
run the following configurations by you first, then we can decide which to
send to the customer. The first is the 7043-150 and is the cheapest
scenario here. The second is the 170 and the third is the 270. Here's a
quick list of caveats, followed by actual configurations:
7043-150 - $10,195
- can upgrade to 3 total disk drives using an optional media/disk bay.
Currently 9.1GB and 18.2GB disk drives supported.
- can upgrade memory to a total of 1GB (4 memory slots @ 256MB cards).
- has 375MHz Processor with no upgrade options.
7044-170 - $12,055
- can upgrade 332Mhz Processor to a 400MHz Processor.
- can upgrade to total of 4 disk drives using optional media/disk bay.
- can upgrade memory to a maximum of 2GB (2 memory slots @ 1GB cards).
7044-270 - $18,555
- can upgrade from 1 up to 4 processors.
- can upgrade up to 3 disk drives using optional media/disk bay.
- can upgrade up to total of 8GB of memory (16 memory slots @ 512MB cards)
It's really difficult for me to choose any of these (or a different
machine) without knowing what we're looking for. Where are the potential
bottlenecks or inhibitors? I guess my question is, do these servers rely
on memory? disk? processing speed? Without knowing what the pre-req's are,
it;s difficult to make a recommendation. Let me know if you have any
questions, or if you want me to clean any of the following up, or make
changes, etc. Thanks.

Jeff,
Here is the redone MIT 270 configuration and an F50 configuration. Just as
a quick note on the F50. I ran it as a 2-Way System (2 332Mhz Processors).
If they only needed one processor, then the price would be $3000 less than
the final price below. The reason I added the 2-way is that if they
decided to purchase one processor, then upgrade it later to a 2-way, it
would cost $7000. Basically, it's a lot cheaper to just buy the 2-Way
processor. Let me know if you have any questions or if you need anything
