Disadvantages:
- lists will be created for people who don't need them at all
(although maybe this is the time to stop creating them for anyone; we
could put a note in various documents that say "accounts created after
Jaunary 1995 do not automatically have a group associated with them;
contact accounts@mit.edu if you need a group")
I'd like to move forward with not creating lists for new users,
regardless. The reason why we didn't do this September was because the
documentation needed to be fixed first. What do we need to do in order
get moving on this?
There's one more disadvantage, which to my mind is the most serious one:
- This represents a perhaps significant policy change, where *all*
members of the MIT community would be entitled to an Athena account.
Historically, we only automatically gave accounts to students and
faculty. MIT Staff members had to go to MIT accounts and ask, and get
special permission of some sort. Are we ready to change this? I'm not
convinced this is a good idea....
