One way to create a srvtab with a null instance key is to use
the ksrvutil program. Here are the steps you will need to carry
out to do this:
1. Set the password for "sms" to some known string with
kdb_edit on the kerberos server. You will need to use kdb_edit
rather than kpasswd or kadmin because this is the only way
(other than dumping the database or writing a program) for you
to find out the verison number on the key. If this is the first
time you are creating the key, the key verison number will be 1.
Otherwise, after you type in the new password, kdb_edit will
tell you
Principal's new key version = n
2. On the moira server machine, type the command
ksrvutil add -f /tmp/srvtab
You will be prompted for some information (name, instance,
realm, version number, and password) which you can enter. This
will add the key to the srvtab. To check to make sure that it
works, you can use the "ksrvtgt" program. You can get initial
tickets for the user "sms" by typing
ksrvtgt sms "" /tmp/srvtab
If you then wish to change that key, you can run
ksrvutil change -f /etc/srvtab
3. Once you have verified that your new srvtab is correct,
append it to /etc/srvtab. cat /tmp/srvtab >> /etc/srvtab will
do fine for that.
I hope this helps. I will defer to others on the list to handle
your non-kerberos questions.
