Project Name: Media Services Center (see issues below)
Project Leader Greg Anderson, Vijay Kumar, Anne Lavin
Report Date Jan. 28, 1999
Accomplishments past period
- From a Discovery point of view, this project is at the point of
reviewing and refining the recommendation in greater detail.
- Added detail for presentation to Provost by Vijay and Dick Larson
- Generated minutes of the Jan. 4 off-site with IS, CAES, and others
- Created Project - DB entry
Goals for the coming period
- Continue to fine tune strategy for formation of Center
- Continue strategic discussions with sponsor - Vijay Kumar
- Work on infrastructure needs for Center (Reid Pinchback has begun this
discussion).
- Continue to define competencies needed for Center
- Continue to define relationships important to the Center; specifically,
relationships with IS units such as FL's, Service units, Help Desk,
etc.
Issues
- This is a great idea that must be worked politically and strategically
- There are near term pressures (Singapore) and long term organizational
and change issues.
- While the concept is relatively easy to understand ("one-stop shopping
for faculty to create electronic course materials"), the _name_ of the
project and the proposed center continues to generate debate.
- Getting this started will require a lot of work and dedicated resources.
Key learnings
- The process to come to common understanding and agreements is messy and long.
Team dynamics:
- IS participants are well informed, bringing common understanding to all
of the related entities is required.
Additional comments:
- The final decision rests with the Provost.
