Project Name: Enterprise Printing
Project Leader: Dave Lambert
Report Date: 05/05/1999
Project Notebook: http://web.mit.edu/is/discovery/enter-print/
Accomplishments for the past period:
- held very productive sponsor check-in meeting; project charter has
changed - produce recommended policy & guidelines for distributed
printing instead of fixing all problems with same
- drafted response to ITLT for getting wins sooner than later &
shortening our timeline
- worked on project charter; began refitting Pismere business model
charter to suit our needs; updated project deliverables; updated
project notebook pages to add focus group summary information
- held meetings to develop centralized Postscript printing service pilot
with Emmons & Huxley; investigated AFP driver availability for SAP
- sent requests for focus group meetings to CAO, SAP coordinators
and selected I/T Service leaders; documented BLT & R3-Admin feedback
- met with Chuck Shaw
- presented & received feedback at I/T Partners
Goals for the coming period:
- complete charter changes; finish business modeling charter;
rework technical design charter due to project scope change
- create tailored scripts for next focus groups
- hold more focus groups; wrap-up 1-on-1 interviews; document all
results to date
Issues:
To address the ITLT assignment, the team
- changed the scope with the blessing of our co-sponsors
- will not try to solve all the distributed printing problems
with a new printing service/infrastructure
- will focus on producing recommended guidelines and policies
for the distributed printing environment as soon as the
business analysis report is completed
- is planning a centralized Postscript printing pilot with CAO
Key learnings:
The first co-sponsor check-in was extremely useful. It feels much
better having a scope which feels doable and much more focused.
Team dynamics:
Timmy (the facilitator) is off to EDUCAUSE. Mary Ellen is competing in
a chorus fest. Dave is off to Phoenix. Lynne likes Sangria. Have you
ever tried to herd cats?
Additional comments:
Thanks to the Pismere gang for producing a business modeling charter
which we felt was worthwhile to retool for our needs!
