Question:
I am trying to create a new mail folder on the IMAP server but I am
unable to do so. I get an error message that says "The current command
did not succeed. The mail server responded: permission denied".
Solution:
Our IMAP servers only permit you to create new folders at the level of
'Inbox' or lower in your IMAP folder directory. Therefore, when creating
a new folder using the File | New Folder ... menu choice, you must do
one of the following:
1) After selecting the File | New Folder option, select any folder other
than poXX.mit.edu in the "Create as a Subfolder of:" drop-down box.
Note: In this example, xx represents your assigned MIT post office
number such as po9.mit.edu.
-- OR --
2) Select this menu option only AFTER highlighting any folder other than
'POxx.mit.edu' or 'Inbox'.
A typical IMAP folder directory might look like this when viewed from
your email program ...
POxx.mit.edu+ <---------------- This is your post office
Inbox+ <---------------- This is your Inbox
