I tried to drag a folder and its contents from the IMAP server to the
Inbox on my local workstation. NS Messenger made a copy of the files so
now they are both on the IMAP server and my local inbox. How can I use
drop and drag so that a folder's contents are only moved and not copied
?
Drag and dropping whole folders or individual messages in NS Messenger
can only be used to make copies and not moves. This is a limitation of
the NS software.
In order to physically move a folder or individual message without
retaining copies in the original location, you would need to do the
following:
* Highlight the message or messages you wish to move.
* If you want to move the entire contents of a folder, select that
folder so that its contents are visible on your screen, then use the
Edit | Select > All Messages option. This option can also be selected by
using the Ctrl-A function on your keyboard.
* Select the File icon on your tool bar (this is different than
selecting File from your menu bar) and select the folder on your local
PC that you wish to move the files to. All of the files you selected
will then be moved with no copies remaining on the IMAP server. You
will, however, have to delete the empty folder that is left on the IMAP
server.
Tip#1: If you wish to move the contents of an entire folder stored on
the IMAP server, you will want to create a folder on your location
workstation first. This folder can have the same name as the folder you
are copying from on the IMAP server. This isn't done automatically by
the move process.
Tip #2: In most instances, it is easier to simply drag and drop a folder
from the IMAP server to your local workstation's inbox in NS Messenger
which results in the copying process. Once all of the messages have been
successfully copied, then you can simply delete the original folder and
its messages on the IMAP server.
