Project Name: IS Web Redesign Project
Project Leader: Christine Cavanna
Jeff Reed
Report Date: August 9, 2002
URL: http://web.mit.edu/is/delivery/isweb/
Accomplishments in July
- Finalized the Scope Document.
- Collected final feedback from Advisory Council and some IS staff on wire
frame options.
- Usability of paper wire frames.
- Reviewed site map and wire frames with Sponsors for feedback.
- Finalized site map and wire frames.
- Scheduled design presentations and next rounds of usability tests.
- Met with staff in the Libraries to get feedback on the guidelines they
use in updating and maintaining their web site.
Goals for August
- Complete 1st draft of Guidelines and Policies for adding, maintaining and
auditing IS web pages (probably closer to September).
- Communicate status of project to infosys (August 9)
- Hold working session with Core Team to talk about content for NEW pages
and Templates needed.
- Design Presentation 1 to Sponsors and Advisory Council -- scheduled for
Monday, August 12.
- Presentation to ITLT on Thursday, August 15 of the design directions.
- Work with Barrett to refine designs.
- Work with staff on content for Topic Pages of the web site.
- Begin development, research and data gathering for content of various
web site pages.
- Solicit feedback on Products and Services for an alphabetic listing to
be including in the new web site.
Next Community Milestone
- NOTE: There will not be a milestone that is visible to the community (MIT)
until the implementation of the new pages. However, there are planned check
in's with the Advisory Council, IS staff and with Usability testers during
the project.
Issues/Learnings (ongoing)
- Project is very large based on size of Web site
- There will need to be many sub-teams to keep critical check-ins for usability
testing, quality assurance and information architecture throughout
the project
- These initial phases of developing the wire frames and site map are critical
to the overall site and although it has pushed the time line out a bit; the
time spent refining these will benefit the site redesign in the long run.
- Team will need to propose an implementation plan regarding how the
content will be converted/transferred into the newly designed site; by whom;
and by when (this will need to be a phased approach). This may be the
largest part of the task.
- No matter what direction is finally decided on with the site, we will not
be able to please everyone.
Team Dynamics
- Need to keep energy levels up as we move into the next phase; a lot of
content to be reviewed, written and decisions to be made.
