My own observations during presentations at IETF correspond with Brock's
accounts. Whenever speaking formally, all of the ESnet folks went to great
pains to describe their requirements as being high speed "FastPacket", and
adamantly refused to describe further whether this meant SMDS (what I believe
some bidders inferred) or ATM, or even FedEx.
