What's wrong:
Well, first it thinks for a while about starting up, and then says:
Can't find font t-ita; using cmr10 instead at 300 dpi
Can't find font t-ita; using cmr10 instead at 270 dpi
Can't find font t-rom; using cmr10 instead at 270 dpi
Can't find font c-med; using cmr10 instead at 300 dpi
Can't find font c-med; using cmr10 instead at 330 dpi

Can't find font t-bol; using cmr10 instead at 360 dpi
Can't find font t-bol; using cmr10 instead at 420 dpi

which is understandable, and known behavior for xdvi.
Then it says:
xdvi: special "psfile=/usr/athena/lib/owl.PS hoffset=-42 voffset=-33" not implemented
which is also ok. It then starts up xdvi, and lets me look at
the first three pages of the document before exiting and saying:
xdvi: Character 174 not defined in font cmr10
What should have happened:
I should be able to read the document!
