A while back, you sent the bug report below to bugs.
What you request is not possible in our current Operating System.
There are many difficulties involved in what you propose. For
example, how do you propose to reconnect to a process that is waiting
on the dialup server for you to reconnect to it? When you telnet to
dialup from rice-chex, there is no way for telnet to know that you've
got a process waiting to reconnect to.
Our kernel is designed so that when a connection is severed, the
processes which were running over that connection are killed. This is
not going to change in the forseeable future.

What were you trying to do?
Work on Athena-vax.dialup from rice-chex.ai
rice-chex went down and I was disconnected.
What's wrong:
rice-chex came back fairly promptly, so I went back to Athena-vax.dialup
and discovered that my disconnected process had been killed and some
work had been lost.
What should have happened:
It would be nice if there were a grace period before disconnected processes
were killed.
