It sounds to me like you're running into a bug with mwm's automatic
window positioning, which has already been reported to us.
As for cleaning up the screen, you don't have to have access to the
title bar of a window in order to move it -- there are button bindings
to move windows, as there are with uwm. The button binding to move a
window is Meta-Ctrl-Button3 on the window. See the file
/usr/lib/X11/system.mwmrc, or the mwm man page, for more information.
