Couple comments:
- She has an AFS homedirectory, and she may be experiencing the problem
that occassionally immediately after an authentication, it seems to
  not find files in AFS.
- Her .path is incorrect... she should be using $athena_path. (Look at
the comment in /usr/athena/lib/init/cshrc regarding the ~/.path file).

Subject: .path not sourced

Yesterday, I was logged in on a pvax (running 6.3B) in the
EECS cluster. My .path file was not sourced.

Today, I was logged in at my workstation (tabetha.mit.edu, a
pvax running 6.3B) and again, my .path file was not sourced. My path
was the following:

qatshweepw% echo $path
. /mit/lnp/vaxbin /srvd/patch /usr/athena /bin/athena /usr/bin/X
/usr/new /usr/n ew/mh/bin /usr/ucb /bin /usr/bin /usr/ibm

The following is my .path file

**directory - /afs/athena.mit.edu/user/l/lnp**
qatshweepw% more .path
set path = ($path /usr/bin/X11 /mit/sipb/${hosttype}bin /mit/clu/exe
~/scripts ~ /x/projects /mit/se01)

Sourcing my .path file by hand worked, but I should not have had to do
this.
