Hi Greg,
I think I have things working now, but I also had a bit of a problem with
the redhat-config-xfree86 program.
The first thing that went wrong was that when I started
redhat-config-xfree86, it didn't see my mouse, making it difficult to
select anything.
The fix for that turned out to be fairly ease: run redhat-config-mouse.
The next thing that happened is that I couldn't get anything other than an
800x640 screen resolution, which meant that when I tried to login using a
local account while off-line (laptop at home), I couldn't get to the
continue button on the "you have no authorization, click to continue"
message. (It was off-screen.)
I finally got this working by hand-editing the generate XF86config file.
I also had to tweak the /etc/inittab file because the system was defaulting
to runlevel 3 instead of runlevel 5.
I'm mostly concerned about the fact that the redhat-config-xfree86 program
would not do what I told it to regarding screen resolutions, but the issue
is no longer critical for me. I just thought I'd mention it in case
someone else runs into a similar problem.
Best Wishes,
--Tom
