here's what should work to fix it:
cd
#(you need to be in your homedir)
$initdir/gnome-panel-1-to-2
$initdir/gnome-stuff-1-to-2
which typically expands to
/usr/athena/lib/init/gnome-panel-1-to-2
/usr/athena/lib/init/gonme-stuff-1-to-2
