I have a stock Athena-Linux workstation running Athena 9.1.26.
It is an i586:

dodecahedron.mit.edu:~ # uname -a
Linux dodecahedron.mit.edu 2.4.18-18.7.x #1 Wed Nov 13 19:05:10 EST 2002
i586 unknown

The libafs kernel module loads just fine, but AFS fails to mount, both
automatically at startup and when I run afsd manually later:

Starting AFS services.....=20
afsd: Error enabling dynroot support.
afsd: Error enabling fakestat support.
afsd: No check server daemon in client.
afsd: All AFS daemons started.
afsd: Can't mount AFS on /afs(22)

Omitting the -dynroot and -fakestat options doesn't help; adding the
-debug option doesn't provide any new error messages:

afsd: My home cell is 'athena.mit.edu'
ParseCacheInfoFile: Opening cache info file '/usr/vice/etc/cacheinfo'...
ParseCacheInfoFile: Cache info file successfully parsed:
        cacheMountDir: '/afs'
        cacheBaseDir: '/usr/vice/cache'
        cacheBlocks: 95857
afsd: 9585 inode_for_V entries at 0x8090d18, 38340 bytes
SScall(137, 28, 17)=3D-1 afsd: Forking rx listener daemon.
afsd: Forking rx callback listener.
afsd: Forking rxevent daemon.
afsd: Forking AFSDB lookup handler.
afsd: Forking AFS daemon.
afsd: Forking Check Server Daemon.
afsd: Forking 4 background daemons.

=2E.. some stuff about reading the cache ...

afsd: Forking trunc-cache daemon.
afsd: Mounting the AFS root on '/afs', flags: 0.
afsd: Can't mount AFS on /afs(22)

So, shall I try recompiling the kernel module? This system worked with
the i586 module when it was running an older kernel... though when it
was running the libafs-2.4.3-12 kernel, I needed to build my own i586
module, since the module provided with Athena would not load.

Is this a bug?

Geoff
