Hi.

This appeared to work when I tried forcing the attach to fail; a
temporary home directory was created, and a default IRIX session,
including the 4Dwm window manager and dash, was started.

When you login on an IRIX machine, does a temporary home directory get
created for you?  (xlogin should display a warning to that effect;
the temporary directory's path would be /var/athena/tmphomedir/$USER).
If so, could you please provide the output of "ls -al" on that temp
directory? Does this directory appear as your home directory in
/etc/passwd?

Thanks,
Bob
