This is a (recently) known bug, as it was first reported not long before
your report (see bugs [16977]). The problem is that we set /dev/hdsp/*
to owner root, mode 600 in our Xreset script, but fail to set the
ownership and permissions of hdsp0events to give the user access in the
Xstartup script. This will be fixed in an upcoming patch release.
