Hm... I understood what was going on when we zephyred yesterday, but I
guess you missed the crucial bit.
The relevant compatibility code is all in the sshd, not ssh. So you
need to have 1.2.26, not any earlier version, installed as the
fallback sshd1 on your server. Any client version will then be able to
connect.
