I see this all the time on my machine at home (which has old
NetBSD-Athena software on it), but nowhere else. It started happening
kind of suddenly, too. The fixed part of the console window generally
does not seem to be managed by the window manager; I think it winds up
having the wrong parent somehow. Very strange. I'm not sure if
that's what you're seeing, though.
