System name: cfd3
Type and version: SPARC/4 8.1.9 (with mkserv)
Display type: cgthree
What's wrong:
cfd3 is a private Athena workstation. We finally got around
to updating the Athena software a week and a half ago, and now
the machine hangs every two or three days. The machine still
has power; it just freezes on the "Press any key to log in"
screen, and there is no response when L1-A is pushed. I
haven't been able to find anything out of the ordinary in
/var/adm/messages, and since the machine doesn't crash,
there's nothing of note displayed when I run 'last reboot'.
The system hangs have only occurred while no one has been
logged on, as far as I know. The machine did not hang until
we upgraded to Athena 8.1, so I feel confident in saying that
something about the upgrade is directly or indirectly causing
the machine to hang. Have other users complained about their
machines regularly hanging after upgrading to 8.1? Do you
have any suggestions as to what might be causing the hangs &
what can be done to eliminate them? Thanks!
