Well, there's a pretty serious bug in the new release, and no one's
reported it yet, so here goes.

I have received reports from two or three users on portnoy (an 8.1
sun) and from one user in the cluster that, after logging out and
logging in again, no xterms appeared as part of their login, and any
they started would exit just after mapping the window. Logging in
without customizations wouldn't help any. The xterm processes exited
without displaying any error messages, and I believe (based on
second-hand evidence) without setting the error status. It didn't
look like the xterm was displaying anything in the mapped window, but
it's hard to tell for sure.

In the case of the cluster user, I went in and looked at the problem
but couldn't find anything obviously wrong. SHELL was set correctly,
and "xterm -e /bin/sh" failed in the same way as just "xterm".

I haven't been able to reproduce the problem myself. It might be
interesting to know whether running "xterm -e /mit/gnu/bin/gyes" exits
immediately under these circumstances; that would let us know if the
shell is exiting because it sees the end of standard input.
