System name: minimum-wage
Type and version:	SPARC/4 8.0K (1 update(s) to same version)
Display type: cgthree

What were you trying to do?
First, this is NOT the system I was on when I encountered the bug.
I was on a Sparc 5 in the basement of building 2, but I have encountered
this bug on EVERY workstation I have used SAS on. The bug has ocurred
when I have modified the code in both 'proc' statements and 'data'
statements in my sas(v6.11) programs. When I add lines of code and
THEN go back to modify them by deleting or insterting other commands
into the lines, or when I add an additional line of code with 'i',
I encounter problems.

What's wrong:
Often, when I add to already present lines of code or delete
words from lines of code, those lines result in error messages in the
sas log output. It either tells me that the commands in the line
are used 'out of order' or with the 'incorrect options'.

What should have happened:
The program should have executed normally as what I SEE in
the program editor is perfectly correct. It is as though when I
delete or insert characters, "invisible" characters are winding their
way into my code that do not appear in the program editor. The only
way I can fix the problem is to delete all the offending lines of
code (using 'd') and reenter them without making mistakes that
require the use of the "delete" key or instertion.

Please describe any relevant documentation references:
I can tell you that I am running vtwm.gamma as my window manager
and my SAS session is not customized at all other than the use of the
"options" statement at the beginning of some of my programs to set the
length of output pages sent to the printer. This identical bug has
happened to several of my friends who use mwm window manager and
have similar customizations as mine.

Thanks. If you have any other questions please feel free to ask.
