In-Reply-To: Mark Lillibridge's message of Tue, 8 Nov 88 10:54:15 EST,
There are bugs of interest to Athena here.
1> Although ttyq0-f are usable, they are not listed in /etc/ttys.
2> The software which selects a pty for use does not appear to verify
that it is listed in /etc/ttys.
3> If a pty is not listed in /etc/ttys, it will not be listed in
/etc/utmp, though it will still be used to log users in. (This
excludes logging in as root, because without the ttys entry, no
"secure" option is specified for that line.) After restoring the
ttys entries, some work has to be done to figure out which lines
are in use.
This information *does* belong here, Mark. It was for these reasons
listed above that I asked Stan to cc his report to bugs.
Furthermore, *if* the dialup service is to become on supported by
Athena, problems in the existing software should be reported to
Athena. (Non-Athena software, such as the idle-user gunner, is SIPB's
problem until Athena takes over dialup services.)
