Hello again,
Yes, the FrameMaker license problems continued past the time I hoped they
were fixed. I now know what is causing the problem and am working on a
permanent solution. In the meantime I can only offer you a somewhat-
awkward workaround.
If you receive the error message "No licenses installed", the fix is to
kill and restart the system program 'rpcbind'. To do this you first
must become root; the process looks something like this:
athena% su
Password: {enter root password here}
athena% ps -ef | grep rpcbind
dot 19582 19243 13 15:03:11 pts/3 0:00 grep rpcbind
root 12472 1 80 Sep 20 ? 0:02 /usr/sbin/rpcbind
athena% kill 12472
athena% /usr/sbin/rpcbind
athena% exit
If you are logged into a public Athena workstation, the root pasword is
'mrroot'. Please also note that your output from the ps command will
look slightly different and that the number which appears in the second
column of the output from ps is the number to pass to the kill program,
not simply '12472'.
I still apologize for the inconvenience,
Dorothy Bowe
