There is an "mitthesis.sty" in /usr/athena/lib/tex/macros.
Unfortunately, it is very ancient:
> navigator% ls -lat /usr/athena/lib/tex/macros/mitthesis.sty
> -r--r--r-- 1 root 5963 Jul 21 1987 /usr/athena/lib/tex/macros/mitthesis.sty
and differs considerably from the "mitthesis.sty" in the thesis locker
(diff output not appended here... too long).
I would suggest removing that copy of the file (and having users grab
up-to-date versions from the thesis locker).
