One of my minicourse instructors told me about a problem with the Latex
thesis template, which I am passing along to you. The follow will explain
it all to you:

} Here's the deal with the thesis template: The files that get pulled into
} anyone's home directory (as we tell them to do in the beginning of the
} course) already contain stuff in them. This is in the hope that people
} can run latex on the files, see how latex crunches through and generally
} get the feel for what commands do what. Similarly, the main.bib file is
} already filled in as well. There's also an include command for the
} bibliography in the main.tex file.
}
} So, when some clueless person hoping to learn about the spiffy template
} follows the directions our minicourse gives them and goes through the
} latex, bibtex, latex sequence to generate an automatic bib, latex barfs.
} This is because the cite labels in the body of the chapter files are
} bogus. The main.bib file contains completely different, irrlelvant
} labels to the citattions within it. It's a simple fix. Just put in
} appropriate labels in main.bib as cited in the chapter files.

} I thought the error was pretty simple and wouldn't have bothered with
} latex's woes and gone ahead done my thesis anyway, but to jane schmoe or
} joe user, who is laready intimidated by latex, the fact that the
} template sample breaks can be pretty disconcerting.
