I looked at the core dump. I've seen that problem before. There have
been some changes that have been made since 18.57 that will probably fix
the problem (status_notify used to generate bad references if filter
functions did weird things like delete processes) but it's hard to be
sure.
By the way, you really should have mentioned whether or not you were
using the man.el in your homedir or the default one; the one in your
homedir has a sentinel that kills a process buffer unconditionally.
This is highly relevant. Please say which `man' you were using.
