I've checked in debathena/third/lprng which does the package and
command renaming for lprng.

There is some dependency adjustment to be done to bring this into the
fold, which I don't want to do right away:

  1. Make debathena-lprng-config depend on debathena-lprng instead of
     lprng.

  2. Make debathena-lprng-no-server-config depend on debathena-lprng.
Or fold its functionality into debathena-lprng (i.e. fix the lprng
cron job to be quiet if there is no /etc/printcap).

There's been some discussion on Zephyr about printing lately, which
I'll address in two parts:

1. Authenticated printing -- this isn't really a priority for us,
except that we don't want to totally close the door on people still
operating authenticated queues (thus the lprng package). Based on
what I know, doing authenticated printing with CUPS would require (1)
installing keytabs on cluster machines so that the local CUPS daemon
can accept forwarded credentials, and (2) converting the actual
printer queues from lpd to CUPS. Neither is very palatable as a
short-term option.

2. Job removal -- this is more of an issue for us, and I don't really
understand the problem space. I can't find a GUI interface for
removing print jobs on my Ubuntu machine, so I don't know to what
extent CUPS job removal is integrated into GNOME. On the command
line, I don't know if CUPS's lprm can remove a job which was sent to a
remote lpd queue (or a remote CUPS queue, for that matter). I
understand from discussion that to remove an anonymously submitted
job, it might be necessary to run lprm without Kerberos credentials,
so creating a wrapper script to do that is on the table.
