OK...
We installed SQL*net 2.1.4.1.4 and the LWP TCP/IP drivers and they seem
to be OK - at least Steve could sucessfully use the Oracle NetTest.
I installed the 16 bit client from the 3.6.2.1 Scopus disk. The main
executeable, Scopus16.exe, was a 0 byte file. So I got the 3.6.2 disk.
This disk has 5 disk subdirectories for client16 - the 3.6.2.1 disk only
had 4. I installed that. I chose not to install the Oracle support
software, assuming we'd already done that. When I run the client, I get
a 'cannot find ora7win.dll' error and a 'can't find scopus16 (or one of
it's components)'.
There is an ora71win.dll in \orawin\bin, which is in the path.
Trying Lynne's suggestion that the 3.6.2.1 disk might be an upgrade
didn't work, as we got back to the 0 byte executable.
I have edited the scopus.ini file to point at 18.159.0.43 (help-them),
which I assume needed to be done.
Any ideas?
