Hi All,
Lynne just told me that there was a decision to implement
Scopus on the 15th. She also told me that next week's training
meeting will be on Scopus.
First, I really resent being TOLD what the topic of a training
meeting will be. I feel very strongly that you should have come
to the helpsupers and said "This is when we want to implement
Scopus, can we manage a training session before then." I would
have said, "Gee, I recognize how important Scopus is, of course
we can fit it in" instead of being all resentful and pissed.
Second, I think it is a HUGE mistake to implement Scopus at this
time, we are not ready for it. There is going to be a serious drop
in service to customers when we hire new students and this
would only be compounded, yes, made worse, by trying to
implement this database at the same time. I highly reccomend
that we wait until the helpdesk is not flailing wildly, but has
some direction and is under control.
Third, your timing of when to implement it is going to further
alienate students and doesn't make sense for the customers.
"Just take a day when we are understaffed and make it harder for
us to work." This does not make sense. Also, by implementing it
on a day when the students are not going to be here looks like
you're trying to sneak it in behind their backs. It doesn't matter that
that's not what you're doing, it looks like it.
Fourth, I'm not telling the students about this. I don't want to
take the fallout/resentment that is going to go along with it.
I think someone from the Scopus team should tell them about
the rollout, and be available to answer questions about it.
thanks,
alicia
