Here is a list of activities I have been keeping in reference to the
production machine. I generally update this list as I get information from
the database group and/or Peter Kelley.

ACTION: Peter to confirm with Jafar on quotation
Peter to get jdb to sign requisition

STATUS: Week of July 8, revised quotation for production machine
based on 10 1 GB spindles, second tape drive for dev.
machine. Requisition signed July 12.

ACTIVITY: Preparing for machine arrival:
ACTION: Peter will facilitate with MCC. Planning to order machine
week of July 15.
Peter to prepare staff and physical location for machine.
Peter to coordinate with the database group.
Wade to get Ip address (it's 18.92.0.211, alias help-us)

STATUS: Trying to get estimated time of arrival from Sun/MCC.
Original plan was to try for week of July 22nd.

ACTIVITY: On-going machine support strategy:
COMMENTS: Need common understanding of service, expectations, roles
and responsibilities to maintain a stable and on-going
environment.
Hardware renewal should be covered under the
work done by the administrative service planning (don't
recall the team name, it's the one with kelley, lambert,
ljr, wfitz, etc.)
ACTION: Peter will write a SLA that outlines the role of
Facilities Management.
Peter will talk to L.Lancaster (or rep.) regarding
third-party machine service.
ISSUES: Need to reach an understanding on when the machine can
be taken down for maintenance and backups.
Need to determine escalation procedure, when to call
the database group, Facilities MGMT, or Scopus.
END TIME: July 26nd (or week of July 22nd) for first draft
STATUS: Open

ACTIVITY: Install machine:
COMMENTS: Database group needs to install SNS.
Peter's group to configure machine for RAID 5, which
will help with a single disk failure.
ACTION: Peter will coordinate the following activities:
2 days to unpack and bring up, including srvtab, rlogin,
ensure noc monitor in place
1 day to install Solaris patches
1 day to install Oracle 7.1.4
START: July 29 (based on original est of machine arrival wk 7/22)
END TIME: August 1, 1996

ACTIVITY: Install Help Desk application:
COMMENTS: If possible, would like to take a snapshot of the
current Help Desk application on the development machine.
This would include Oracle and it's system tables such as
the accounts and the Help Desk database.
Also need to (via tar) bring over the u1/scopus partition
in order to maintain the same binaries and scripts
required to run Scopus.
There will be some machine configuration required, e.g.
init.d to ensure database is restarted on reboot.
Testing of the Help Desk application 1.0b4 is to begin
on August 5th. If possible, would like to test using the
production machine.

ACTIVITY: Stability testing:
COMMENTS: Need plan to test production machine. Would require at
least one full week of production machine up and running
and tested before we can start using it in a production
environment.

ACTIVITY: Contingency planning strategy:
COMMENTS: If we were to use the development machine as contingency,
there is much work to mirror the production machine. Need
to review low tech options as comparison (paper,
filemaker). Also, need to understand the various
problems, issues, resolution and mean time of
failure/repair.
ACTION: Wade and Peter to review options for contingency.
Wade to review options with tooltime/help desk team
May need to involve others - database group, Gerry I.?

hear from Scopus on certification for 7.3.
