I just wanted to circulate my thanks to all who helped sort out what
went wrong with Arachne yesterday.

Ultimately, as most of the recipients of this note know, there were two
faults: an error in an initialization file that Pete Kelley found, and
a problem with some pl/sql code originally written by Diane Delgado that
was putting Oracle processes into infinite, resource-hogging, loops that
Miki Lusztig found.

Special thanks to:
Mike Barker for sounding the alarm to the right people quickly.
Miki Lusztig for working with Mike to isolate the fault.
Jim Repa for beating the bushes for folks in W91 to help out when I had
trouble making contact with the right folks.
Pete Kelley for the attentiveness to the inetd issue.
Ron Parker for asking sensible questions that also helped isolate the
fault, and for taking extra time to look things over late in the day.

The only way our response to the next similar situation could be
improved is to have more streamlined communication and coordination, or
more broadly trained people so that the right expertise can be more
gracefully and quickly focused on the problem.

Thanks again, everybody.
