Mike, I do not think the emphasis is overstated in these notes. I believe
DCE will become established at Phillips largely through the need for UNIX
security. Also, it would obviously be detrimental to our DCE strategy in
general for any OSF product, in this case CDE, to be offered that does not
align with the DCE RPC.

OSF offers the best chance for the UNIX community to become a player in the
vast business computing market. These vendors are nearing the end of a
quickly closing window of opportunity. Petty quibbling over inclusion of
proprietary standards could very well delay the OSF suite of products until
Mr. Gates usurps the mid-range operating system as well.

In the best interest of Phillips Petroleum, OSF, and the UNIX market, I
believe it is crucial that CDE quickly integrate OSF Security and the DCE
RPC. We should do whatever we can to ensure this takes place.

Regards,

Jim
