The first meeting of this group will be held in the seminar
room of Microsoft's regional office in Foster City, CA from
10:00 to 3:00 on Monday March 6, 1995.
Based on responses to my initial posting, I have received 35
acceptances. A rough breakdown indicates 19 end-users, 7 ISVs
and 9 system vendors. The issue of "The DCE Newsletter" that
was distributed at Decorum '95 and simultaneously mailed out,
carried a pitch for the user group and I hope to get some more
responses. Also, if you are thinking of attending and haven't
told me so, now's a good time to do it! We are making arrange-
ments based on acceptances.
Here is are discussion topics based on feedback from you:
- How can DCE be made less complex?
- How can the DCE development process avail of innovative
improvement ideas?
- What are publications that carry/accept DCE articles?
Any other topics?
Company presentations include:
- X/Open Federated Naming by Sunsoft
- Distributed File System by Transarc
- Database Connectivity over DCE by Open Horizon
Please note, we are missing a user presentation. Volunteers?
Based on this feedback, I plan to have two hours of presentations
followed by lunch and another two hours of discussion. I
would like to stress this is a User Meeting, dedicated to fostering
dialog between users, and between users and vendors about what
users want (and don't want). It is assumed that attendees have
a basic knowledge of DCE and its components. However, if any
of the users planning to attend want a short overview, please
let me know.
