CUSTOMER SERVICE NEWSLETTER. This electronic bulletin will be sent to
you on a bi-monthly basis and will contain synopses of the latest events
in OSF's Educational, Professional, and Systems Engineering
organizations. Also included will be the public training schedules for
both OSF and our Business Partners worldwide!

OSF BUSINESS PARTNER PROGRAM

In this first edition of the Newsletter, we would like to introduce you
to the OSF Business Partners.
Just about a year ago, OSF extended an invitation to its Member
community to become OSF Business Partners. OSF Business Partners are
authorized by OSF to provide vendor-neutral consulting and educational
services based on OSF technologies. To be authorized as a Business
Partner by OSF, a company must meet technical, business and service
delivery standards set by OSF to ensure consistent high quality
offerings.
This new initiative is aimed at providing practical, independent
support to users implementing or planning to implement open systems IT
solutions, especially those based on OSF technologies. By developing
partnerships with highly qualified service providers worldwide, OSF can
expedite delivery of crucial education and consulting services to the
end user community, accelerating the implementation of open systems
solutions.
A year later, this new venture is eight companies strong and growing --
with Business Partners located around the globe providing both
educational and consulting services on OSF technologies. The OSF
Business Partner program can address the needs of your staff in many
countries and languages. OSF Business Partners offer courses in
Australia, Austria, Italy, the Republic of China, Singapore and the
United States.

OSF welcomes another new Business Partner - The Centre De Recherche

**Professional Services Announces Data Capture Interface Availability**
OSF Professional Services announces the availability of the Data Capture
Interface (DCI) technology. DCI, which is based on a specification
developed through a public process facilitated by the Computer
Measurement Group, Inc, provides a standard framework for gathering
system performance information.
DCI will be available in OSF/1 Release 1.3. OSF Professional Services
is also making it available to companies without OSF/1 licenses under a
separate agreement. DCI code shipment is scheduled for Q2, 1994.
Licenses will be available shortly; early licensees will receive a fee
discount.
More About DCI
--------------
DCI will most often be used by applications that report on system
performance, such as monitoring and system management tools. The DCI
framework provides a standard interface for applications to register and
provide performance metrics, regardless of data type.
The DCI components have been designed for easy portability to UNIX-based
systems. Each component has clearly described interfaces between the
operating system dependent and independent sections.
DCI is unique because it offers a standard interface for storing and
reviewing performance information. DCI lets users compare application
and system performance measurements. Most importantly, it is a
provider-independent framework that will become the industry standard
mechanism for gathering performance measurement information.

***Professional Services Announces New Open Systems Course***
A new open systems course, "Implementing Open Client-Server
Technologies" is now available from OSF Professional Services.
Implementing Open Client-Server Technologies is a two day course for
engineers and technical managers who are either planning a client-server
migration or are actually implementing client-server systems today. The
purpose of the course is to: 1. help participants identify the technical
barriers to successful client-server implementations, with a focus on
DCE integration issues and; 2. help participants devise approaches for
resolving these barriers.
The course applies its technical concepts to an example IT environment.
This case study environment may be either an OSF-provided example or the
client's own environment.
This course assumes that participants are familiar with the
client-server computing model. Experience using the C programming
language in a UNIX environment is recommended.
"Implementing Open Client-Server Technologies" is available for on-site
delivery and licensing. It will also be offered as an Open Enrollment
Class in selected cities in worldwide. The first open enrollment
offering is scheduled for the Washington D.C. area March 17 and 18.

***DCE 1.0 - based defect repairs available***
During the time the DCE 1.1 development tree is closed,
the OSF Software Support group will be offering access
to critical interoperability problems to its full support
customers. These problems have been reported by users
of the DCE toolkits, and will help to ensure a consistent interface
and problem resolution across vendors. If you have a support contract,

***OSF/1 v 1.3 Snapshot 2 is now available***
This is an interim release, based on build level 14 of the ongoing 1.3
development. The snapshot is provided primarily for those licensees
basing product on the 1.3 architecture: with this tape, you can
refresh your sources with a recent, mostly stable build. The snapshot
is available to our support customers through the AFS cell, or on tape

***Q2 Release of OSF/1 version 1.2.2***
Work continues on the OSF/1 v 1.2.2 maintenance release.
Currently, there are well over 100 defect repairs integrated onto
the Integrated Kernel source base. We will be running PCTS,
SVVS and VSE conformance tests among others. Look for the
release in the beginning of Q2.
