Subject: Systems Office activities - Winter 95
I want to update you on activities and projects in the
Systems Office through the winter of 1995. Given the number of
projects that are underway, I thought it useful for me to gather
those together and to talk with you about them. This is also an
opportunity to talk with you regarding how Systems Office staff
will be spending most of their time. It is also a request to you
that should you need information or assistance please call the
Systems Office. While much work is underway, please do not
consider that a reason for staying out of touch; on the contrary,
in high activity periods such as this, constant communications
are vital.
These are the key projects underway and the Systems Office
staff with primary responsibility in each area:
1. Implementation of GEAC Advance. Grant Young
2. Co-Development effort for the Tom Owens
GEAC client/server system to be
ready summer 1996.
3. Novell Netware IP project to Ray Charbonneau
extend Local Area Network services
over MITnet.
4. Electronic Reserves Carter Snowden
5. MITOSIS/GARP+ Carter Snowden
6. Capital Equipment deployment Ray Charbonneau
and installation
7. Programming efforts: MIT Pubs, Tom Owens
Bursar/Registrar, Burndy Library
catalog, Advance report writing.
8. GEAC 8000 operations Grant Young
Each of these projects is important for the Libraries and MIT and
each has multiple facets. Clearly many of you will be involved in
these projects in some fashion, and each will require communications
and collaborations with all staff.
If you need more information please contact me or Tom (Tom's
schedule is still variable as he continues his recovery, so there
may be times when he is unavailable). Thanks to everyone for
your contributions and assistance.
