Hi all,
The current Oracle client installers build sqlnet.ora as part of it
and generates the random seeds when you run the installer. Tnsnames.ora file
is the additional ftp file that is "separate" from the installer due to the
updates DBase team make to the file. As far as I know and, please correct me
if I'm wrong, we don't change/update the sqlnet.ora until we have another
Oracle version. At least that was my experience since I released the Oracle
installer mid 97 for the Win platform, and the same goes for the Mac I believe.
Otherwise I have to re-write the installers on both Win and Mac platforms.

To update the tnsnames.ora file we should provide an easier way for
users to get the updated file than logon to athena/ds locker.
I wrote small Vise installer to ftp/net-dist the tnsnames.ora file only, and
would be better yet to have web access to the document if we don't consider
the file to be MIT ONLY ( This Option will work better for monolithic
installers)

mac, windows and unix. The program is located in the ds directory:
/afs/athena.mit.edu/astaff/project/ds/dbms/oracle/netdist. The program uses
the configuration file platform_edit.conf which is in the same directory.
There is a Readme file in that directory with instructions as well.
