Bill:
We have 162 Athena SGIs on Remote Parts care, meaning SGI ships us
replacement parts, MIT has to install them & return the defective parts.
I assume any FCO would be handled the same way.
Most likely SGI would not want MIT to pop PROMs off the motherboards. They
would ship up replacement boards, and have us ship the old ones back.
With respect to an inventory of machines currently deployed, I think the
definitive source of that information is the database Joe Welch maintains.
I don't know if the prom upgrade is required for all the machines--that
sounds like a technical call to me.
After we know how many machines need to be upgraded, and when the upgrade
will be available, Cluster Support can decide how they want to handle the
installations.
Regards,
Linda
