There is a bug in the SGI boot proms.
We need to estimate the cost of fixing the proms or living with broken ones.
(Note also that this costing work will factor into some other prom
upgrades I'm contemplating for our Suns.)
Background:
If the "Dont Fragment" bit in a bootp packet is set, the packet is ignored.
In SGI call ID 0697017 it is confirmed that this is a bug in the
currently shipping boot proms.
Bootp servers that perform Maximum Transmit Unit discovery, need to set
this bit.
MikeWhitson: What is the consequence of not being able to fix this bit?
There are PROMs that are in development at SGI that fix this problem.
John: Please nudge your people for a time estimate on when an upgrade
with this fix would be available.
Linda: Please inventory the machines currently deployed that would
require this change, and tell me what work is involved in doing the
upgrade.
IE: Do we have to send Cluster Patrol out to each machine, pull the
motherboard, and bring it to PC service to upgrade, or is this something
we're covered to have SGI representatives come in and do. (My
impression is that it is the former.)
