Good News:
----------
* Following to the isolation of the outstanding 'tape header' problem,
we are now getting good backups of the E40 SAP platforms.
Accomplishments Past Period:
----------------------------
* Renewed Veritas Support contract.
* Reported 'tape header' problem to the Veritas support:
The problem is caused by a tape drive Reserve/Release functionality
that is not present in our current OS Release (Compaq Tru64 4.0F) and
will only be resolved with an upgrade of the OS to Compaq Tru64 5+.
As the result of this response from veritas:
- The contingency plan in E40 (only 2 servers backup per night)
will have to stay in place until the OS upgrade.
- The OS upgrade is now in the critical path and we won't be able to
implement Netbackup in W91 before all W91 SAP servers (including
SAP production) have been upgraded to Compaq Tru64 5+.
* Agreed on performing the SAN reconfiguration in W91 in the next months
(December or January)
* Discussed with ASST the deployment of the new OS (Compaq Tru64 5+)
to our SAP systems. This project has started and is expected to follow
the spring integration testing timeline and should be completed by the
end of FY02/Q4
* Discussed new Enterprise Backup timeline:
Considering the OS upgrade timeline, the Netbackup implementation won't
be completed before FY03/Q1
* Continued maintenance and operation of NetBackup on the E40 systems.
Goals for the Coming Period:
----------------------------
* Establish detailed timeline for FY03/Q1 implementation taking into
account the upcoming availability of the single-mode fiber link
between E40 and W91
* Meet with sponsor, key stakeholders
* Update project documentation and web pages.
